Map layers

The map now uses a different base-map system with multiple fallback choices. Use the layer selector at the top-right of the map to switch base maps. Railway overlays remain optional and may depend on OpenRailwayMap service availability.

Standard rail infrastructure Signals & train protection Line speeds Electrification Track gauge

Base map selector: use the layer button in the top-right corner of the map to switch between Esri Streets, OpenStreetMap, and Carto Light.

OpenRailwayMap shows mapped infrastructure, not a dispatch diagram. Data may be incomplete or outdated; operator, subdivision, radio, and detector details need separate verification.

Open the official FRA rail network map for a government rail-network reference.

📻 Radio frequency reference

No frequency is pre-assigned to a route in this map because railroad radio channels vary by territory and can change. Add only frequencies verified for the exact subdivision or dispatcher territory.

A frequency can be reused in different territories. This page does not tune a scanner or stream audio.

📡 Broadcastify rail feeds

Open a feed below to listen on Broadcastify. This map does not capture or analyze the audio automatically; live automated parsing requires an authorized data integration or your own audio input.

Live feed integration is not connected. Broadcastify's current developer documentation says API access requires application approval and a paid subscription; do not assume these public pages authorize automated audio capture or transcription. A detector announcement can locate a train only when the detector's identity/location is verified, and the train symbol must actually be spoken or otherwise known.

🛠️ Detector / hotbox report

Log an announcement you heard or a detector location confirmed from a reliable source. Unknown detector sites are deliberately not guessed.

Data notes

This prototype does not automatically know where trains are. Scanner audio is not GPS, and detector announcements are not a universal live map feed. Rail geometry and infrastructure layers are shown from OpenRailwayMap / OpenStreetMap community-mapped data and may be incomplete. Attribution: OpenStreetMap contributors; OpenRailwayMap style CC BY-SA 2.0. Detector sites and frequencies are not guessed. Rail lines are private property; observe signs and railfan only from legal public areas.

Radio reference examples: NSH&T area railroad frequencies and Railmaster frequency reference. Community lists may be outdated or territory-specific.
